Covington Middle School Security Renovation: Austin, TX

Covington Middle School presented a design problem worth solving well. The campus operated on an open plan layout that needed security barriers, but a wall or fence would have undermined the very openness that defined the environment. Smith Holt approached the challenge as an opportunity, designing custom metal panels with a waterjet-cut pattern that delivers the necessary security while retaining a sense of lightness and calm. Color and open patches soften the intervention further, turning a functional requirement into a quiet point of pride for the campus.
