Historic Austin Home Remodel: Austin, TX

This four-bedroom Austin home came to the Smith Holt team as a one-story, four-bedroom home in need of more space and better light. Rather than starting over, the firm worked with what was already there, opening the floor plan, adding a small playroom, and ensuring the private quarters remained genuinely private. A tall clerestory was the decisive move, drawing natural light into what might otherwise have been a long, dark corridor and transforming the experience of moving through the home. The exterior integrates seamlessly into the surrounding neighborhood, giving no indication of the care taken inside. The project earned a five-star rating under the Austin Energy Green Building program.
